The Running of the Bulls

Mission: Create a level 1 tauren character. Log in for the run to Arathi from Mulgore. No leveling, no weapons or other enhancements

So we did. Here we are at login, with hundreds and hundreds of other level 1 Tauren:

Here we go leaving Mulgore for the Barrens:

Or group had to wait for the second zep. at Orgrimmar.
We are the ones with icons on our heads:

And...to make a long story short, folks had so much fun they decided to continue to Iron Forge, which was kinda hard with the guards 'n all. LOL:

  1. What a lot of fun!!

I have observed some such open play activity in WoW, but not that much. I wonder how often people organize their own creative play activities.

One of my former student's guilds used to have slumber parties where they would do a conga line with the follow command. I thought that was really cute.

  2. The running of the bulls with hundreds of Tauren leaving Mulgore and heading to Hammerfall. Hmmm. Having never played a Tauren and only having played 1 low-level Horde toon, this sounded like a novel experience that I needed to try.

I created a young bull a few days before the party and made a practice run along the route designated. To say that SilverPine, Hillsbrad and Arathi are unkind to level 1 players would be an understatement! It took me well over an hour to get to Hammerfall (run, die, rez, run further, die again, rez...), but at least I knew the tough sections of the run.

At the given date/time I logged in about 5 minutes before the running started with a fresh toon (the old one had leveled from the practice run) and tried to contact the other runners (JBB disguised as Vygotsky, etc.), but there was so much "mooing" in the chat window I didn't get hooked up with them until 1/2 way through the Barrens.

The herd actually started moving about 2 minutes before the hour (someone's watch was fast)...it was amazing. Bovine bodies as far as I could see...all running across the plains. It was funny to see the non-participants just standing on the side of the roads watching. Then again, with the server lag we were experiencing, that was probably all they could do.

I actually got to the Zep tower before the first flight left, but having only been there once before, my bull was doing the china shop dance when it slipped off the platform...so I took the 2nd flight.

That's when the carnage began...the run from Undercity to Hammerfall was stocked with beef-eating creatures. You could hear the agonizing screams as the runner became a dinner. I noticed that a few in my group had the run-die-rez problems I had encountered on my solo run. I stayed in the middle of the herd and also side-stepped the areas that I had been attacked on during my practice run and I made it to Hammerfall without incident about 45 minutes after departing Mulgore. I had other plans, so I couldn’t continue the run to IF, so my run ended there for me.

I hear that BRD is plotting another run in July...and I’m planning to be there!!
